Remington 887 - thoughts?

I am looking to shoot clays but I am not ready to spend money on the Italian stuff. But I wanted a weather resistant shotty. The 870 is mother of shotguns but I don't hear too much about the 887.

Is the 887 worth the few extra bucks over an 870? or Should I consider something else? The Winchester SXP looks nice too.
 
I have a 887 tactical and i love it,no recoil even with 3.5 shells shoots great and turns alot of heads. I know there were some issues with the earlier ones but i havnt had any issues with mine and i have probally + - 7000 rounds through it. My only issues is gloves and fingers sometimes get caught on the lifter on the loading port but my 870 sometimes does that too.
 
I have heard a lot of people saying that the forearm slide has a major pinch point! Don't own one, so I'm just going on what I have heard! The sxp is what I'm going with.
 
I was debating between that and the standard 870 and decided to go with the 870. I though the slide on the 870 was smoother. Haven't ever shot the 887 before just held it and worked the action at the store.
 
I had chance to look and cycle the 887 yesterday. Not that impressive. Looked really cool but I think the 870 would be the better choice between the 2. But I also looked at the Winchester SXP... I really liked it. $429 and comes with 3 choke tubes.
 
Its a crappy knock off of a Benelli Nova. Remington has been peddling some cheapo junk in the last decade. They're higher end stuff is still good, but put the 870 express and 887 beside better guns, and you'll notice the difference.

A new/used Browning BPS, Benelli Nova/Super Nova, or an Ithica are better options if you're decided on a pump gun. Get the one that fits/feels the best.
 
I own one. I've had it about a year and so far the only real issue is not fully ejecting shells occasionally, but that has seemed less prevalent lately. I find the action is nice and smooth, having shot ~1000 rounds. I like the sights it came with, nice and easy to see, plus I also got a turkey barrel for free when I bought it, with rifle style sights, so that is a nice option to have, but it is considerably shorter. I shoot skeet and gophers with it, and it works great, the recoil is minimal, mind you I pretty much only shoot 7 1/2 or 8 shot 2 3/4.

I also would add that there are basically NO aftermarket parts for these, last I checked, which is pretty ridiculous since it is based on an 870.

the rifle is 96% polymer.
Only finish is on the shot shell tube.

I walked into Lebaron with 800 to spend on a shot gun.
Looking for a tactical shotgun . Spent less then 500 with tax in the 887.
Love it. Two friends held it.
They after holding it went out and bought one for themselves the next day.

YOu can use it as it is or go out and buy a Bird barrel.

I recommend it ...
Buy what you like and enjoy it.
Buy them all ! And make a cool Thread on the topic :)

Well I dont know what to tell you because the camo finish was coming off. He was pissed.
 
For what it is, it’s a pretty good shotgun. I like the full length pump since my length of pull is shorter. It’s the most comfortable pump action shotgun I’ve ever used just for that reason. I got it for the purpose of waterfowl hunting but I sometimes use it on grouse hunts in areas that would terrify my over/under for how grown in the trail is. I occasionally use it for sporting clays but it’s kind of boring using a 12ga for any clay pigeon shooting. There is no challenge what so ever. You can take a nap, have a shower, eat lunch, and then take your shot and still hit the clay pigeon. My 20ga is also kind of boring too. Its like the clay bird is a magnet and my 20ga over/under is the only thing it attracts. That's why I always find myself using a .410 for clay pigeon shooting. Anyways, the M887 Nitro Mag is a rugged shotgun meant to be thrown around. I would recommend it.

Lets see as of 2009 remington sold 10,000,000 870's since 1950 humm I wonder why.
Maybe they are are good gun. I wonder how many 887's they sold.
I was not impressed with what I seen when I handled one but I am an old wingmaster guy

:confused: Are you an old guy who likes wingmasters or are you a guy who likes old wingmasters?? I am both and supect you are as well:D
 
Wait for a bit of weather that gets under that weatherproof finish and you will realize what a POS that the 887 is.
 
I have a 887 and love it, it was a bit stiff at first, put about 600 rounds and now it pumps silky smooth. i went out with my buddies, one who has a supernova, and i liked it. 6 different guys shot them both and agreed that they shot and felt similar, people who own them love them, yet those who dont say they suck, go figure...
