Anyone know why Remington has R-P [Remington-Peters]?stamped on the head of their centrfire ammo? If I recall correctly wasn't Peters an offshoot brand of Remington? I haven't seen anything in years on Peters and as far as I know it is not offered under that brand name anymore. So why hasn't Remington changed their dies? Too much effort to change them all? Just curious, that's all.

Remington and Peters started off independently, but Remington bought Peters in the 30s. My guess is it's just a tradition thing.

R-P stands for just that: Remington-Peters. Peters was a stand alone company at one time, I have an old 30-06 box so marked. Once Remington bought them out, the headstamp on Remington ammo went from UMC to R-P.
