I have a Remington 700 BDL(mid 80's). It is chambered in 30-06 and I was thinking of having it rebarreled to 25-06. What type of barrels would you guys recommend? What smiths would you recommend at a reasonable price?
I was looking at the Gaillard barrels, and wondered if they come chambered etc. Thanks for the help, and any tips would be appreciated.

I don't know if Ted is doing any 'smithing, or just making barrels. I've only ever bought tapered blanks from him. His barrels are excellent. There are other Cdn. barrel makers and a search should turn up their contact information. All have good reputations. There prices are generally similar.

Find yourself a good gunsmith and see what barrels he prefers and can get for you. It sure beats dealing with import-export bs yourself and probably isn't going to cost you anymore. Nice thing about Gaillard is he's in Canada.

Your gunsmith probably has, or has access to many reamers.

We charge $550 to rebarrel blued and $680 for stainless, using Montana or Heym barrels. We can use Gaillard, etc., the price to rebarrel depends on the price of the blank.
