Remington BDL stock refinishing to original look

I've had similar results with oil-based Varathane. Ther are three grades - gloss, semi and satin. Even the satin displays a fair amount of sheen - its quite close to my 700 Classic. Dont know if my rifle is representative of all 700's, perhaps the semi gloss would be the best bet. If you dont like the end result, you can redo the last coat in a different sheen.

Its been done to death. The paint you need is clear Dupont RKW. You have to spray it on. I use a badger air brush and it seams to work quite well. Dupont originally designed it to finish bowling pins. Clear IMRON and Endura give a similar finish but is a little fussier to use. Both IMRON and endura are an isocyanate type paint and you need to take precautions not to inhale it. Outside and wear a mask! Rod
