Remington Bolt Knob Addition

Just got back my Remington bolt from Sorenson Precision Machining
( drsorenson@telus.net ) and I have to admit, he's done some fine work attaching this bolt knob ($75, actual knob was an additional $35 from billsboltknobs, USA). Have a look.

what kind of cold bluing did he use on the bolt handle?

I think most of them are made of aluminum... so it would likely be anodized. It probably came from the supplier like that.

It does look like a great install though!

The bolt knob was purchased from boltknobsbybill . com It is just aluminum anodized as far as I know.

WTF is the deal with these bolt knobs? Other than looking cool, do they really do anything?

They make it easier to handle the bolt... Get down on the prone position, cycle a 'regular' bolt 50 times... then try one that has been modified. It's must nicer/easier.

I think some of the knobs are way too large for a hunting rifle... but anything is acceptable when the customer requests it and is happy with it. They do make the bolt handle longer and easier to use.

The knob is aluminum and I did blue the bolt 'handle' with Oxpho-Blue after shaping and blasting it. In the picture you can see a little blue Loctite has seeped out of the thread.
