So, I'm pretty new to hunting and went out with some friends last year who loaned me some gear to deer hunt.

This fall I'll be going on 2 deer hunts (hopefully) and one or two turkey hunts.

I'm hoping to save my limited $$, and was thinking of the Remington line of camo gear (that you can get at Walmart) - they're about $100 each for top and bottom.

Anyone have any experience/advice you're willing to share with this newb?

I've got both the thick Remington pants and the double or triple layer rem jacket(can't recall) and they have both been wonderful in cold weather. In my oppinion good quality for the price as well. I also bought the twill jacket last year(34.95) at Walmart as well and that's my number 1 fall jacket. Actually looking to get one for the wife.
Not to mention my dad has the matching set to mine also, an he loves his.
My suggestion, buy it. I can't justify spending 3-400 dollars on a jacket brand like Sitka.
You won't regret it.

Just bought a jacket from walmart to go with a matching pair of pants (off brand, same RT pattern/camo). For the cost and features and I didn't have to drive 1hr 45 mins to Bass Pro, it was well worth it.

I bought the 4 in 1 rem coat last fall at walmart. When it get cold out it sounds like you are moving in a paper bag. I would buy something better not this loud cheap coat. Sitting in a blind at -30+ windchill it isnt very warm with 2 other fleece jackets under it

yup those are great gear for its price.
but most hunters will have light wears in fall, and thicker like rem clothing in winter. either or once you start getting into hunting more and more, you will have 3-4 clothing lines.
hope you enjoy your hunt!!

I prefer Bass Pro's Red Head brand in that price range. Ive owned both.

I currently have a light suit in the Red Head Squallex line, its of better quality then the Remington light suit I replaced with it. My parka and bibs are also Red Head and they are very warm. I routinely use it ice fishing and have yet to be cold.

FWIW I think the 4-1 is a gimic. As mentioned above you're better off buying a couple different sets and not trying to make one do it all.

Remington "waterproof" clothing. What a joke. Yes I have some. Bought the heavier insulated coat years ago from Walmart. I find it reasonably quiet and warm. They really need to remove the waterproof advertisement though. Brand new, worn twice. Went out in the rain if you want to call it that. (spitting) I was out for a half hour and the coat was wet through the outer layer. I think that is suppose to be the waterproof part.
I still use it but, I bring a real waterproof layer for when it rains. Be aware of that and prepare for it and you should be good to go.

Heh - so I know I asked for it, but I've gotten both ends here, eh? :)

A couple like it considering the price point), some don't.

Well, I guess I just have to give it a go a bit and see? (maybe I'll just try Value Village :D and layer with a cheap surplus layer over top)

I am happy with mine.
One thing I found to be important is to wash it in "Sport Wash", usually found right beside the coats. It is scent free and keeps the garment waterproof, for many years.
It is noisy in bitter cold, but warm too..

It is good enough and it is priced right. I mix it with quality underlayers and it works well. Wool army surplus sweather and a quality wicking layer ( I won't endorse the brand that costs 30% more because of it's name) and you will be fine.

I believe that sport wash is just soap that is safe for gortex and "like" garments. It is also great due to the fact that it adds no sent to the clothing. I use it regularly on all my stuff.
Once again, my only beef with the Remington stuff was the fact that is advertised as waterproof and it wasn't.

Sport Wash does more than no scent, it actually won't reflect UV rays that many animals will see at a distance. All your hunting gear should be washed using sport wash.

Made in Bangladesh I see. :D Bought the lighter weight "waterproof " jacket. Waterproof all right. Wore it a couple of days ago and started to sweat. Not good. :D Wait till the end of the season and Wall mart will have them on sale for half price.
