I picked up a Remington 597 a couple weeks ago. After dealing with the warrenty mag, I got a decent deal on it. However, yesterday I went out and sighted it in again, I fired around 60 shot through it with Remington Cyclone ammo. It's a nail driver...when it fires, lol

Out of the 60 rounds, I had 6 FTF's that I found the round and iirc I dropped 3 or 4 into the grass and never found them. Might have been even more as my buddy fired a few mags himself. realistically probably 15-20% in FTF??

I've got the latest mag and it works at about 95% now which is way better. And I ordered a VQ hammer because the pull was rediculous(not yet installed).

How is everyone else's experience with the cyclones? Without the VQ hammer in there, I'm not going to jump to conclusions, but the dent in the casings looks just like the dent in the fired round's casing.

Remington IMO (and alot of other peoples as well), makes crappy rimfire ammo. Try some CCI Mini-mags you will see a huge difference in performance.

There was a sale at CTC today so I bought a couple other brands just to try out.

Just funny, i'm used to my Dad's old Cooey 600 that would eat absolutly anything, not a semi I know but still.

I found 597's hammer spring a bit too weak as well. It does fire everything so far but I know it doesn't feel hammering like some older rifles. Plus its firing pin tip is shaped differently I am not sure if thats improvement over traditional blade-like shape.

If its fairly new gun you may still have a little bit of factory conservation grease slowing firing pin movements - try taking it apart and clean all moving parts if you haven't done it yet.

i've had failure to fires with both types off .22 rim fire ammo i have bought it pisses me off cause the yellow jackets are a good little bullet when they shoot also had failure to ejects to

cci minni mags sub sonics stinngers and small game bullets all work ecellently

Make sure the set screws in the back of the receiver aren't too tight.

I got Federals "Campions" from Wal-Mart, feeding problem all the time on my ruger, 1-2 jams per 10 rounds, no problem with my marlin 795, feed all 500 + 150 American Egle (also jams a lot in ruger) no single problem on marlin. Marlin rocks, thinking of selling Ruger now.
