Remington Firearms Shipment

Maybe this is not the thread to do this but here goes lol... I'm new to all this and i'm interested in getting into long distant shooting.. I've narrowed down my choices to 700 sps tac 308 and the aac-sd. Now i see this one the (AD) with a 16" barrel... Now that 16 vs 20 of the others. Is there an advantage going to a 16 barrel.. I just wanna make the right choice off the bat... Thanks for any help lol.....

A longer barrel equals more velocity, which makes shooting longer distances easier. Not that shorter barrels are not effective at long range, but more velocity leaves less room for errors. That being said, on a modern 308 with modern bullets and powders 20" is considered a 'safe' short barrel. 18" is short and people usually start quoting 800 yards effective range. 16.5" is primarily designed for suppressors. In Canada, where aural safety is a crime, the rifle will be obnoxious for extended shooting sessions. That's my opinion anyway. I wouldn't go shorter than 20" using a factory barrel. With a custom barrel and cut chamber I would stick with 18" for a light handy rifle.

I have the 20" pipe and so far that gun is giving book velocities for the powder charges listed. Shorter pipes may not always produce the lower velocities.

In any event that thing is going to bark. Shorter barrels DO seem to create more muzzle blast in my scholarly opinion...
