I have been using them on ducks so far in 3.5 inch no 4 with good success. I find them a little harder hitting then the black cloud. Any one else use these shells?

The pressures are too high for my waterfowl guns. Almost 14,000 psi which is hard on gear especially when 3" guns are only designed for 11,500 psi. Many manufacturers now will not warranty guns if these are being used and quite a few have had damage as out lined on other forums
I can reload to get the same speed and pressures but not worth it or do I need it to kill ducks and geese. If you cannot kill with the other(s) safer high end steel shot available today it is the gunner not the tools and best hit the clay field.

I am using them in a Mossberg 935 with no ill effects yet. I hope they are safe for this cheap shotty. Can you point me to a reputable source that shows the pressures?

Just for giggles I ran some shotgun rounds over my chrony. I tested some Hypersonic steel in 20 gauge. They are listed as 1600 fps on the box but were clocked at 1700. The recoil in that little single shot was punishing and the muzzle blast was obscene. I was impressed with the performance, but I think these may be a little too much for my wife to use when we go chicken hunting. I would like to test the 12 gauge rounds. IMO I would think twice about using them in a semi.

I shoot what patterns well and is a good price. Most days that is Kent Faststeel... love this stuff! Although I did get some heavy shot as a present that I am saving for late season ducks! Never tried the stuff, who knows maybe I will be a convert!

Personally i don't care much for duck loads that make my teeth hurt, and these things kick like turkey loads and are louder than rifled slugs. There's no denying that they work though. Make sure that you patern them through a few chokes. Like blackclouds and other fancy wad systems, I got tighter patterns with IC than with MOD chokes.

Heavy shot #3 are my favorite loads. No time to change goose loads so ducks wore some Remington hyper -speed BB.Running Briley extended Mod choke.Harold

I ran a couple boxes in the early goose season through my Xtrema 2. YOu lead the bird a little less, it's actually noticeable, but I made a few 90 yard shots that Winchester silver box would never have worked on.

For the same price, Hevi Metal is better ammo though IMHO. When it connects, it seems to hit harder.

What choke and how much lead does one need to use to be able to nock a goose down at 90 yards

Well, that's roughly the height of a 25-storey building. If the goose is going 40 mph and the average speed of the shot is 1,500 fps, that'll need 11 feet of lead. No idea on what choke would be needed to get a killing pattern at 90 yards. Don't know what shot size has what energy left at that distance.

Claven, I'd love to find out that combination you're using.

Here's some ballistic info.

I ran some Hypersonic 3" #1's through my 870 two years ago and the recoil was ignorant, in addition, the worst pattern I've seen. Felt like the dang gun was gonna shake apart. Now I just stare at the other 2 unopened boxes of Hyper' in my ammo bag during slow times in the blind. Kent is my choice, decent price and patterns nice.

90 yards! You know you aren't allowed to use lead slugs eh?!
