remington LTR

I used to shoot to a 1000 with a 10X scope with no problems. Anything in the 3-12, 4-14 or 3.5-15 range would be fine.

for those with loading experience.....
lapua 308 cases with lapua 170 gr FMJBT LOCK BASE: 45 gr of varget powder

what do you thing of the recipe. should it be good up to 600 m under 6-8 inch accuracy?

Paramedic, there is too many variables for a yes or no answer. With the right rifle and scope and scope base and rings combo, and working out a load for that rifle, it is psible for sure. An OCW load would definatley help. OCW= optimal charge weight. I'll try and get a wrightup on it, unless someone has done it already.

Barrel quality makes more of a difference in accuracy than length.

I agree, I have a Rem Factory Ltr and a H-S Str. The H-S is a consistent 1/2 moa rifle, some better some worse but the Rem is 1.5 moa rifle at best. Match grade vs mass produced is a no brainer providing the shooter does his part, if not you will never know the difference.

My LTR shoots tiny little groups with berger 155's and varget w/ nosler custom brass. No paper between holes...ever. I Had it skim bedded and installed a timney. I have not shot paper much at 600 but highpower rams are easy money at 550. I really love my LTR...... I'm sure you would enjoy one as well.

No paper between holes...ever.

Thats a pretty bold statement, I heard that before, till I actually witnessed the guy and the rifle shoot. Mind you everybody on the internet shoots 1/4 moa groups from every range, position, condition ...

Barrel length has nothing to do with accuracy at all strictly speaking, in fact shorter barrels are less affected by harmonics and are actually more accurate in many cases.

There may be some difference in velocity between the 26 and a 20, but can promise, it aint much (I would be shocked if it were 75 fps), AGAIN faster DOES NOT mean more accurate. The optimal load will take experimentation on your part, but the bottom line is that these are factory barrels. some are really good and many are not. At least in an LTR you have a rifle that is extrememly suited for upgrades, including a match barrel - in any length you want. This would turn that rifle into a potential competition winner.

Yup. It's bold alright. PM me I''ll send you half a dozen targets. Where do you live? Better yet...come and watch me.

I will also call BS on this.

Tell you what, seeing as you are close why don't you come out to the BCRA Tac rifle match at ASU Chilliwack in June.

I will set you up at the 100m mark with a sheet with 5 targets on it. You have to place 5 shots on each target taking as much time as you need to do this. If you can go the five targets and not have a flier or leave any gaps in the group I will pay for you and your partners entryfee to the two day match.

What say you?

I'm with Parker-Hale-Mike on this one,,,,,,,,,

Please fill out the 2009 BCRA Precision Rifle Tactical entry form. Rather than internet chat you can show your rifle skills on the line:onCrack:

An article in Tactical shooter found there was a 90fps difference between the 700LTR and 700P, which doesn't really equate to much. I think you'll like the 20 incher

Hey guys,

OK I will back down a bit.....

I would love to come to your match...I'm not really close by, about 10 hours away but OK I get your point...."ever" may have been an exaggeration, however, I would bet that 90% of the five shot groups shot with this rifle a ragged holers. They do have a tendency to be strung vertically (within the group) but if I really bear down they will can rip one holers. I usually never get into E-pissing matches but i'm telling you, as will many LTR owners that many of those rifles are amazingly accurate for factory rifles. I have bested many custom rifles in multiple challenges. I get the point...it may have been brazen but that rifle is amazing. how about this...."One hole five shot groups are surprisingly common when I am shooting well" does that sound better?

Longer Barrel length has nothing to do with accuracy at any distance.

Short barrels are stiffer and affected less by whip and harmonics.

just chimming in i have a 700P LTR and man that sucker shoots, i have two particular loads that work in mine 1. 168gr 2. 175gr mined you since i don't shoot from a rest just off my backpack i get very consistent small groups that make me happy

I also have a ltr but mine is in 300 saum and it is one rifle that will never leave my collection . It loves 150 gr barnes tsx over 64 gr of 414 . It is very picky with bullets 155 a-max shoots over 1.5" but the barnes will shoot under an inch all day . From the lead sled it prints perfect clover leafs and it is great to carry in the bush or the truck with that little barrel.
