remington M40 is back

Way easier metric all the way around than trying to go from Mills on a spotting scope to minutes on a rifle scope. Mills seems much friendlier to use. To bad most reasonably priced scopes don't have this available. Nightforce will if you either order it from the factory that way or send your existing one in to get re-geared, (from what I understand). Its not cheap to retro fit an existing one from what I'm told.

Now, all that being said I thing the Schmidt Bender PMII 3-12x50 with double turn elevation and illuminated reticle is going for something like $3200 from Wolverine,,, WOW! Mind you if you ever get a chance to try one,,, WOW! Nice glass, very heavy, but very nice. Its kinda like having a Bentley in the garage I'm told.

The M40A3 is also a very functional rifle, the downside being that it weights in at something crazy like 19lbs. Thats a lot of bang stick to drag around.

Where does all that weight come from? My .308 weighs 19 lbs, but that included the steel PH bi-pod and a heavy 28" barrel.

The M40 Vietnam Era rifle has a regular 700P/Varmint barrel with the same contour as the 700P but cut down to 24" and a flat crown. The M40A1 is much different gun all together, the barrel, the action the recoil lug and the stock are much more then the stock M40. I have shot an M40A1 build by Texas Brigade Armory, GA Presicion but the best bar none was the one I shot build by Iron Brigade Armory. Norm Chandler employ's retired 2112 USMC armourers who built the real deal for the USMC in the weapons shop, not taking anything away from the others they build out of this world rifles, but thses guys at IBA really know what they are doing. I have also been told that HWSNBN builds and out of this world M40A1 copy. The M40A1 with Unertl glass and base/rings is still bar none my favorite rifle. I was recently reading an article about the M40A3 rifle, and how the snipers have adapted to it, most of which wish they could have the A1 back.
