I like the basic bottom metal, with hinged floor plate, that Remington has used for years.

This is the style that is on the SPS Varmint, I just bought, but the metal is horribly cheap (even by Remington standards).

Is there a source for good steel bottom metal?

Do other guys replace the cheap 'pot metal' crap with good steel, or is the price too high?

I'll be watching this thread too. I was looking at PT&G bottom metal the other day - after reading a suggestion about their 3 position safety - and was wondering the same thing as Demonical.

Is the Kwik Klip still available and if they are, what do they sell for?
If they are not available, what did they used to sell for?
I have one new in the box for the 30-06 class that I never used, and was wondering what I might get for it, if I put it on the EE?

I bought one new locally about 3 years ago for $129. Bottom metal with 1 mag.

I think accurate actions carries the kwik klip stuff

WGP sell kwik klip, and factory bottom metals both new and used if you stop in and look a few over.

As far as ptg goes, I've had some that were very nicely machined another that was a total pos that nobody would stand behind - kinda sucks when you drop $200 on a bottom metal.

Sorry, I don't know what PTG is.

FWIW, I ordered one of the Williams SA steel from Brownell's. Maybe they will send it.

Last time I tried Brownell's though, they wouldn't ship the item.

Yikes, doesn't sound confidence inspiring. I was looking at them as they make a SS version. What happened with the crappy one? What was the problem and how was it resolved?

Do you lose much length in the mag compared to a bdl set up? Anyone know the max length your oal can be on cartridges to fit the kwik klip?
Thanks

It was stainless version of the model 7 bottom metal. It was substantially undersized on all the outside dimensions (ie gappy in the stock inletting), but worse was the inside dimensions were all way undersized - you couldnt get a mag box to fit into the recess. I tried mag boxes from the 60's up to current offerings and none fit.

PTG told me it was a problem on my end, and that their products are never out of spec. So they nor the Canadian distributor I ordered from would do anything. So I was stuck with a $200 paperweight. I still have the floorplate, but I ended up destroying the triggerguard in an attempt to correct the issues (a desperate attempt).

So I ordered the Williams SA hinged floor plate from Brownell's. Figured why not?

Their Customer Service emailed me and asked me to fill out an 'Intended Use' form, then fax it back to them, which I did.

If it passes their review, then I guess I will get that part.

I wouldn't do this on all of my M700's, but want it on my .22-50 Varmint rifle.

Disappointing to say the least...... only ordered from PTD once, and it was satisfactory......

GMC403, thanks for the suggestion.

Update: Received an email from Brownell's Customer Service this morning; they reviewed and approved my 'end use' and are proceeding with the order.

$215US, is probably too expensive for some, but there ya go; for the boys with lots of money, Brownell's is your source for quality M700 btm metal.
