Remington M700 Bottom Metal

GMC403, thanks for the suggestion.

Update: Received an email from Brownell's Customer Service this morning; they reviewed and approved my 'end use' and are proceeding with the order.

$215US, is probably too expensive for some, but there ya go; for the boys with lots of money, Brownell's is your source for quality M700 btm metal.

Good to hear,

Brownells has always been great to deal with in my experience. There are some items that they cant/wont ship, but for the most part they are pretty good about it.

That is fantastic!

Just got another email from Brownell's notifying me the package has shipped!

Wicked, fast service.

Of course, I'm sure Canada Customs will find a way to waste a bunch of time processing the item... but otherwise, it should be here in 10-14 days!

Has it arrived yet? Any surprises?

I'm looking at SS options - what do you all suspect is the best choice?

I have both short and long bottom metal factory offerings off the LSS models if that is good enough for you.

As far as ptg goes, I've had some that were very nicely machined another that was a total pos that nobody would stand behind - kinda sucks when you drop $200 on a bottom metal.

It was stainless version of the model 7 bottom metal. It was substantially undersized on all the outside dimensions (ie gappy in the stock inletting), but worse was the inside dimensions were all way undersized - you couldnt get a mag box to fit into the recess. I tried mag boxes from the 60's up to current offerings and none fit.

PTG told me it was a problem on my end, and that their products are never out of spec. So they nor the Canadian distributor I ordered from would do anything. So I was stuck with a $200 paperweight. I still have the floorplate, but I ended up destroying the triggerguard in an attempt to correct the issues (a desperate attempt).
Well, that answered that next question. I will look for a factory BDL bottom instead.

I've used several PT&G bottom metal units. All have been serviceable but most needed file work here and there. But next to my Blackburn stuff they are pretty crude.

Some Sunny Hill bottom metal is US$174 (factory fit), while the rest are between US$403 and US$560. The website is not very good at explaining the difference between them other than that the cheaper one has Sako-style push button floorplate release vs inside the bow release and the more expensive versions' guard bow has been contoured to enhance the custom appearance.

Any of you know if there are other differences?

Hey Paul, what did you have in mind? Give me a PM, I can likely help you out.

I have had good luck with about 5 different PT&G 700 and Mod 7 bottom metal assemblies, sorry to hear about your bad experience there DG........

Doug - with respect to the 3 piece PT&G saftey - do you get the kit, and if so what trigger do you use?

I have never used the 3 piece safety 1899.........sorry. I have used a lot of different triggers over the years and several were Canjars without safeties. I never rely on a safety in any rifle and I never hunt with a cartridge in the chamber. I'm just not that possessed about a fast shot. I can close my action or work the full cycle of my action as I bring the rifle to my shoulder and get a crosshair, I don't need to travel, by any means, with my rifle cocked and on safety. JMHO In grizzly country I sleep with my rifle at my side with a cartridge in the chamber and the "hammer" down, so to speak, so all I have to do is lift and lower the bolt to be in full service mode. I just do not trust my own life or my buddies lives to a mechanical safety device.........never have.
