Hello All,

I have acquired an old, wonderful Remington Model 11-48 recoil operated semi-auto shotgun. I am attempting to find out her date of manufacture. I have looked all over the net, and on the Remington society's website. They eroniously state that all Remington arms after 1921 have a letter before their serial number. Mine does not. If someone could help me out, it's be appreciated.

Serial = 511777* (star is number, but hidden for privacy)

Cheers,

The barrel code will date the firearm better. Look for a stamping combining a letter and a letter. The first letter will be the month and the last will be the year. ie: BLACKPOWDERX these letters represent the month B= Jan etc. The letters start (for your purpose) with TT=1948 UU=1949 WW=1950 XX=1951 YY=1952 ZZ=1953 A=1954 and so on ie: B=1955 C=1956 etc. That should help.

regards, Darryl

Darryl, I happened to have a look at my barrel and the markings are a small "c" and then a large "A" following that is an odd symbol of a circle, with the bottom part of the circle being an upwards pointing chevron. Under that are 3 letters that almost look Hebrew? They certainly are not latin or arabic numbers or letters. It has a modified choke.
