im new into shotguns. I had a friend who had a remington model 31 who sold it to me for 125$. anyone know anything about this model and its approx value its in perfect condition??

Good shotgun that was made in the old way when things were hand fitted and machined out of steel. It's in line with the Winchester Model 12 and Ithaca 37. Don't trade it or alter it. Just shoot it and keep it oiled and rust free.

Good old gun. Actually I think it is a mechanical twin of the Ithaca 37 which began production when Remington's patents ran out on the design. At least I think that's the case.

You would be wrong. The Ithaca is bottom eject while the Mod. 12 and 31 are side eject.

They are considered by many to be slightly superior to the Win mdl 12. It was nicknamed the gun with the ball bearing action, it was slick slick slick. Forged, machined, hand fitted parts. Unless that gun is rusted and worn out with a bent barrel, you got a stellar deal.

Pics and a more detailed description are required. (No, it is nothing like the Ithaca 37).

You made the stellar deal of the century. No contest between the Ithaca 37 and the Remington 31; the Remington wins hands down. Enjoy your new find.

Hi: There are many grades of the model 31. I forget now but something like 15 or 17. I would dig further to get the grade of what you have and nail it down since some are worth over 2000.00. Epps has 4 listed now from 350 to 600.
Regardless they were a good gun and even the base model is worth more than the 125 you paid.Like the boys said don't alter it. Keep it clean and shoot it.

Not my words but I knew I remember reading it a few months back. Hope this helps
