Was recently Given one of these by a friend, It was given to him new, in 1956. Im looking for any and all info about the gun, Potential problems? modifications? It also has an intermittent feeding problem, When cycling the bolt it the last round in the tube will often (about 50% of the time) "stovepipe" or be sticking straight up and down, My friend said he had it to a gun shop years and years ago (the 60's or 70's) and they said nothing could be done... anyone out there have one with the same problem? if so how to fix it?

Thanks. Mark

Cannot post pics but the two lips that pick up the bullet and hold it in line with the bore. I have a Marlin not a Remington but the actions should work the same. i will look for schematics for your gun and see if i can help more.

Markus 88....your first post says that the gun you have is a tube fed magazine. The schematics show a box mag fed rifle. They do not feed the same. But it does show in the lower right, the mechanism that picks up the bullet from the mag tube. This is the part that may be worn or needs adjusting. It is different than my gun.

.... Give the feed system a though cleaning ( flush ) and lube... WD40 worked well for me, to clean out dried "gunk" that caused the whole feed system to simply not move as it should. .... David K

.. The one I played with, took a LOT of flushing to get everything working in the way it was supposed to. ( Built around the late 30s if memory serves )... If your first effort at lubing and flushing helped a little, I'd suggest repeating the process a couple of times, obviously remove it from the stock, before you try bending or filing anything ! ..... im going to give the mag tube follower rod a good varsol bath at work next week, ive already started refinishing the stock. as for rebluing the barrel and other metal parts whats the best way to go about that, also Has anyone here ever scoped one? or know if anyone ever made parts to do so?

Edit, im relativly certain this one was made in 1956

the gun is just about the same as all bolt action rifles. Many did not have either the drilled and tapped holes for scope bases nor the grooves in the receiver to accept scope mounts. Much the same boat as you, I took my 3 marlin 81s to a gunsmith and had the guns D&T for scope bases, This cost me $60 c/w bases installed each. Much better than risking the slippage or damage that can happen with a grooved receiver. With the mounts, the scope cannot move. Good luck in your choice, just enjoy the sport as all of us on here do.
