Remington Model 597 VTR .22LR Should I ?

Mechanically speaking, I mean, without the tactical stock, etc, how different is the VTR compared to the standard 597?

If the guts are the same, the standard 597 seems like quite a deal, especially when they start at 189, and Frontier Firearms is selling a stainless laminate version for 319 with a 3-9 scope.

mmmm.... so, paying a fair bit of $$$ for 'tacticool' then.

Well, yeah I guess but you have easy options for upgrading stock and grip and foreend. Where as the regular model if you want to upgrade your stock your looking at $150 at least. My friend has the regular 597 and he'd rather have mine :) or so he told me. He likes his but he loves mine :D

I say just build your own tactical 22 out of a Ruger 10/22. If you have to change a bunch of parts in the VTR to get it to shoot properly, then you might as well not pay booku bucks. Just get a cheap 10/22, order all the parts in one batch, and have a fun Saturday getting it all together. Cheaper, customized to you, and you built it. ?

VTR done the way you want with the upgrades is still cheaper than 10/22+body kit+trigger+extractor.

VTR!...

Non-Restricted, accurate, fun to shoot, and you can even take it hunting!...

No problems with mine so far. I like it as it is a lot less work than to get a 10/22 to this stage and a little less $'s, which means more time at the range shooting it.

w.w.w.

Im curious about the same thing that Untergang was asking.

I have been looking at the Sr22 and the VTR and found that the VTR have more than a handfull of complaints about failure to eject, where as nothing like that about the SR22. as far as i have heard.
What are some on the VTR owners opinions/thought?

My first VTR ejector broke after 6 shots. There were a bunch of pieces on the bench.
I was not a happy camper. Took it back to the dealer and gave me a new one.
I have 400 rounds through the new one and no problems . I really like it.
I also have a 10/22 standard carbine.
I do not regret my purchase.

This may sound super stupid of me to ask. but there is a guy on another topic in the forum, who is claiming the VTR has been reclassed by the Canadian govt as being prohib. I'm not sure if he was using sarcassm and if he was, I may be alittle dense.
Anyone got an answer?
