I have a "Whitetail" version .300wsm that is unfired and I'm just trying out some loads for the first time. I'm finding that the cartridges are not feeding into the chamber without 2 or 3 efforts. Brass used is winchester virgin, bullets are hornady 165 interlocks, and OAL is 2.8. I shortened one down to 2.72 and although a little better, still not really good. Anyone else with a model 7 in .300wsm that might offer some suggestion?

Took a case and ran through the resizer again, used the hornady bullet again, same result with the jamming, then I tried a barnes xbt, and a nosler ct, neither would feed properly. The end of the bullet is catching just below the chamber and it takes several pushes on the bolt to get it up there. Don't know if I should try factory loads. I'm starting to think the gun magazine has a problem.

What's the oal of factory loads?

Doesn't sound like a case/bullet problem, more like a magazine/feed rail problem. If the bullet is catching it's not popping up high enough to enter the chamber. I had to polish the feed rails on my 700 .300wsm to get it to feed slick.

I think the average factory ammo is 2.82"

Brass chambers fine, once it gets up there. It would appear, as was said earlier, the front of the magazine doesn't have enough spring to push the tip of the bullet up far enough to get it to feed properly. This from a new gun? How would you polish the rail? With what?

if possible, go to the shop where you got the rifle and ask them to try to chamber some factory ammo. If it wont feed factory ammo, you're gonna be best of shipping it to Remington warranty in eastern Canada, they should be able to get it to work

Have you had the stock off it yet? Could be that the mag box is not seated properly or the spring is catching on something....

Here's the warranty link if you need it... I see lots of our sponsors on the list, nice to see....

I had a similar problem with my Remington 700. I could only load 2 rounds, the 3rd could catch on the feel rail and then when trying to chamber they would get all messed up. It was just like blargon said, the magazine box was not sitting square. A few taps on the edge that was sitting high and it popped in place and everything was golden. Mine was on a used rifle I bought. I would hope that wouldn't happen on a brand new one but you never know.

Took the stock off last night, and lo and behold, you were both right, the box was not centered in the opening, leaving a little lip on on one side. This must have been stopping the spring from bringing the cartridges up far enough. After several attempts, she's now feeding properly. Saves me a great deal of time/trouble in having to send it back. Thanks again.

Well, not only did I get the feeding problem figured out, I found out this sucker can shoot. Did up a load of H4895 and Interlocks 165G and tried her out this morning. Groups got progressively better until 55G and then this:

56 Grains showed high pressure signs and group got larger again. Needless to say, I'm pleased. Now to do up some more 55 Grains and try it again!
