Have decided to go back to just one hunting rifle

Do you have any idea how many times I have said that myself? :D

The T3 is very light, the Model 7 is very classy. (Especially the CDL)

You need to figure which one feels better to you, and go from there. I can add only one thing, I've never shot a .300 short mag of any flavour in the Model 7. I have touched off a few rounds out of a couple T-3's now. One had a very nice Limbsaver recoil pad on it. You'll want one if you get the Tikka. The rifles feel very nice, but recoil is stout in such a light rifle. :)

the t3 has a longer barrel 24 vrs 22 and the t3 is lighter. the t3 is a better value and will not need any smithing to make it a shooter. trigger is usually better on the tikka but the rems can be adjusted as well. i have many rems inc two model sevens but only one t3 at this time. a ss 300 wsm. the t3 gets dragged every where and has the scars to prove it. its not the best looking rifle i own but its a shooter. as for the t3 recoil pad if your wearing a jacket its fine but a little hard for shooting in a t shirt. if i had to own only one hunting rifle(god forbid) it would be my t3 wsm.

Rem 7 Whitetail Laminate

You really need to handle a Model 7 before you decide. They're sweet and compact, but I've heard at least 2 other shooters say they find them too small feeling.

I picked up a Rem 673 guide rifle. Before you puke all over the keyboard, the rib pulls right off w/ 6 screws, and the stock design does a fantastic job of soaking up recoil, and points great. The blonde stripes- yeah, they're fugly...

I like the look, light weight and compactness of the Rem Model 7, but haven't been terribly impressed with the accuracy reports I've seen thus far.

Really hard decision. I like both the rifles, price wise the Tikka wins, looks wise the Rem 7 wins. I think the T-3 may come out on top for me. The lite rifle helps out big time at the end of the week. making them both great!

I would go out on a limb and say teh T-3 will be better accuracy wise out of the box. The last 3 rems I had new I had to work on them to get what I wanted, and one never did come into the accuracy i wanted. Seems the 20 year old rifles were just better on paper?? food for thought.

A 300 WSM is a great pick of the litter no matter what you decide. Very very universal for NA hunting.

I should have mentioned that I was looking at the Model 7 specifically chambered in .204 Ruger. If someone has a Model 7 in .204, and is happy with how it shoots, I'd like to hear about it.

Good thing the poster wants a .300WSM then.:)

thanks for the imput guys,

tough choice. As much as I love the 7, I think I'll try the Tikka this time

I think you will be happy with the results! I chewed some fat the first time I carried a T-3 and took me a few years to love to hate the look. If you can get over the look which i do not mind now, there is no one that will question the performance of the T-3 they do shoot where you point them.

As mentioned many times the M-7 is a great rifle as well, I have a 308 7 that really is a tack driver and I love to carry it. The plastic stock is not mush better on the remmy's however!

I have a Tikka T3 stainless in 300 win mag and it has a limbsaver but it still rocks the shooter. Compared to the .308 it is a rocker. The Tikka T3 7mm mag seems less so. I dont know about how the wsm compares.
