Just bought a Remington Model 7 Predator in .223, 1 in 12 twist. Have not shot it yet and waiting for a scope, anyone own one and what are their opinions on Model 7 or Predator specifically? What would be good round choices with 1 in 12 twist?

50-55gr mostly. That's a slow twist and less versatile than a 1 in 8"

M7's seem to be hit and miss, test it out with a variety of ammo.

Have you had any problems feeding rounds from the mag? I have heard of some issues. What types of 50-55 gr are you using?

I gave you some negative comments regarding feeding issues based on my own experiences before but I really do hope you got a good one. Some work perfectly fine and for some unknown reason there are a few of them that don't. The Model 7 Predator is a great rifle and at the price you paid it is worth a shot.
Regarding the 1 in 12 twist it is best to stick to the lighter stuf. The 40gr v-max will really shine in your rifle with both speed and accuracy. The 50gr v-max won't disappoint either. I've found that 55gr is pushing the limits of the 1 in 12. Close range out to 200 yards you will still have good accuracy with the 55gr but I've noticed at longer distances or in poor conditions the accuracy starts to suffer due to less bullet stability. If anyone tells you that you can shoot a 69gr pill out of the 1 in 12 don't waste your time.
I hope you have fun and enjoy your new rifle.

I was thinking of trying American Eagle 55gr FMJ, Hornady 40gr Vmax, and Hornady 53gr Vmax Superformance varmint. I may try to push it with a 60gr or 62gr but will go no higher. Thanks jiffx great response, appreciated.

A good "budget" ammo to consider trying is the Winchester White Box 45gr JHP in the 40 round value pack. I've had really good results with it in a 1in12 twist but I stopped using it because all my 223's are either 9 or 8 twists now and the faster twist barrels don't favor this ammo. Your rifle has a good chance it will shoot this ammo well

I have had very good luck with a variety of flat based 55 grain SP's in a lot of 1-12 twist .223 Remingtons. I very much like the handling of the model 7 predator rifles and if I stumbled across the right deal on one with a 1-9 twist or .22-250 Remington I'd be all over it.

Nice little guns. Bed it, trigger job as per most Remington's. 22" barrel iirc. Don't get fussed about the heavy bullets. Try some fiocchi vmax ammo in 40 or 50 gr. Very accurate.

The predator has a magnum profile barrel vs the standard m7 pencil weight barrel, It will shoot just fine. You may consider dropping it into a better quality stock down the road and having the trigger played with - but I would shoot it first.

I have noticed the bolt closes tight on an empty chamber. It moves fine forward and back. I have put a touch of grease on bolt lugs (bolt is clean) and it is better but still stiff to close/open. Is this just due to new and unfired rifle or is there some contact happening?

If you are using 2-piece mounts, use talley lightweights - they are about the only currently available mount I know of that the rear base and ring doesn't over hang the ejection port. Just my $0.02

I am using Leopold 2 piece bases, used the feature on leupold website to find right ones for Model 7 and my VX2 scope. They are readily available and yes the rear base does overhang the ejection port a little.

I bet you would be fine with extra lows, but lows would forsure clear.
I have extra lows on mine with a leupold 1.75-6x32

*giving it some more thought, I'm almost positive extra lows would be fine. I had a 3-9x40 leupold on a titanium and was running extra lows.

Med is available at Grouse River, low and x low is not...

A difference of .1 inch in the two...

Mediums are too high in my opinion.

I should have asked earlier, is your action drilled and tapped with 3 or 4 holes to mount bases?

4. Only a year old, helping out a friend. On sale at Grouse, half of Prophet. Did not care about the extra height. Thanks all the same.
