Howdy one and all...
My darling wife is in need of a rifle. After having patiently put up with me foisting my Lee Enfield mania on her for a few years, she and I have both noted that in fact, she is a much better deliberate shot than I. (So, when the revolution comes, she will be my long range cover as I move in close with the semi-auto on advance to contact!)
That said, we also have my SwissArms (which she does enjoy shooting, but not humping the mass around) in the house, and a large supply of 5.56mm ammo. Although she will put up with .303 noise and recoil, she much prefers the .223.
I would love to buy her a rifle of her own, that fits her 5'2" frame, and doesn't cause back strain to pack around. I would estimate that 99.5% of her shooting will be done on a range, and as such, I had considered one of the 20" barrelled Savage "tactical" bolt actions, but alas... No love finding a stock that fit her.
We did once grope a Rem Model 7 youth, and she enjoyed the fit / heft of the wee thing... I am concerned, however, that the light barrel might not be the optimum for range style round counts.
Comments, please, from those that might own one of the Model 7's? I appreciate that these little rifles are intended as "carry a lot, shoot a little", but would hope that they might do all right under sustained firing, if allowed to cool between rounds?
Thanks in advance!
Neal
