Any of you guys ever see one of these rifles?? I was flipping through an old Remington catalogue and saw it.
For those of you who have never seen one it looks like a VSSF 2 with a key for the palm swell.
I guess it also took special ammo that was elctronically ignited

Cheers!!

Haha I remember seeing those when they first came out... I thought it would either totally be a new way of ignition and would catch on - or die out.

It apppears the latter is correct. Cool idea, but not really necessary. Is lock time really that much of an issue for people? :)

You gotta hope the dudes who bought those stocked up HUGE on primers! Maybe it has a cult following... who knows?

I think the same Engineer that later dreamed up the 710 thought of these too.......

Come on...I don't think you've even seen one of these rifle with a comparision like that. The design was a little more sophisticated then the "bic" 710

I have a cartridge in my collection. The primer is a little different looking, with a black area on it for the insulator.

Rem has a bad habit of bringing out something with great fanfare, then letting it die off soon after.
5mm RemMag
EtronX, in 3 calibres
8mm RemMag
I have heard that some of the SAUM rounds are being phased out. Is this true?

It's a really good idea, but really more suited to the target crowd than anyone else. Like the HK G11 and caseless, it's a really good idea and certainly a step ahead - technologically - but not enough to create the momentum necessary to sustain it in the marketplace.

shhhhhh, don;t say that, all our red-dot equiped hunters out east will get offended....again ;)

Lol I've been here a while, but I haven't seen that one yet.

Back on topic, has anyone ever seen/fired one of these? Anyone keeping one for the day when it becomes valuable, like Betamax? :p

Clearly meant for the target/prairie dog guys.

Who, clearly enough, weren't all that interested.

IIRC those came out about the same time there was a lot of crap going on through the US legal system, about the possibilities of mandating built in locks/safety/ security features into firearms of all sorts.

My bet is that the CEO's that OK'd that project, still got their bonus check and it cashed just fine.

Cheers
