Remington Model 700 VTR, 308 win

Anyone own one and if so what do you think of this rifle? I've held one in the store and they feel comfortable and appear to be well built.

For long range and open country, I've got my 270 WSM and think for moderate ranges and wooded areas, the 308 would be a good selection.
 
I had one in 308 and loved it! Prob gonna go buy another this weekend I miss it so much kicking my self for trading it lol but it was a good trade! Mine seemed to like 168gr match king followed by BLC(2) she'd shoot a .5 inch group at 100 meters not bad for a mass produced rife accuracy is kind of a hit and miss thing it seems with todays big companys ( no pun intended lol)

Been wondering how much louder they are with the Muzzle break?

Did you ever fire it without hearing protection like in a normal hunting situation.
 
meh, you are paying $150 extra for the gimmick of a triangular barrel and two-tone low-end rubbermaid stock.

save some money and buy a basic 700 SPS-V for $530 at LeBarons, send in your $40 rebate and youre at $490 +GST.
take off the factory stock and sell it for $70 on the EE to someone that just needs a synthetic beater stock for their model 700. now youre down to under $450.

take the money you saved and order a quality fiberglass aftermarket stock. or look in the EE and buy a take-off HS Precision or Bell & Carlson stock for a couple hundred bucks. it wont have a flashy triangular barrel but youll end up with a much better rifle for your money. the stocks are a real weak point on the SPS series and IMO a flimsy rubbermaid stock does not belong on a target/varmint rifle.
 
I picked 1 up for sh*ts & giggles.I've only put about 100 rounds through it and am using Winchester Supreme 168 gr. match ammo.My groups have been averaging about 1.5 - 2" with this ammo but that might be more my fault than the gun.It seems to carry alright and I don't notice it being any louder with the muzzle break. Remington VTR 223

A friend of mine asked me to look at the VTR today in 22-250 but he wants one in 223.
Anyone tried one of them in 223?
The one I handled today looked good, was well balenced when pointing down range.
The stock is OK but I thought it looked like it won't take much punishment.

The store I went to was asking $899 and Cabela's wants $699, big difference. That's the price of a scope.

I would tend to agree with manbearpig about buying a Remington bolt gun.

VTR 223
I have one. I changed the stock to a Choate Ultimate Varmint and I also reload my own. on a good day I get 0.25" at 100yards.

I basically go to the range and put up those colour push-pins and hit them dead on.

This rifle is great IMO, ppl may think the triangle barrel doesn't do anything but i like look of something different.
