I recently acquired a later model 722 Remington that has had a recoil pad installed. The length of pull is 14 inches. I find this to be too long for me. I do not think the stock has been cut. My question is this did the later 722 come with a plastic butt butt plate or were they still using the aluminum ones. I wish to remove the recoil pad and install an original plate.

If the butt is flat, it has been cut. A replacement buttplate could be fitted. Or, the stock could be cut shorter and the pad refitted.

I have what I believe to be an original 721 or 722 aluminum buttplate. It has a slight curve to it. Very little wood would have to be removed to fit it.
