Hey there, I am curious on the values of two rifles I am pondering acquiring.

The first one is a model 742 woodmaster, and it has 742 stamped on the barrel. Its .308 caliber. The rifle is in average condition.

The second one is a model 742 woodmaster in a 30-06 caliber. Average condition as well.

I know peoples opinions about these semi's. but Im just curious for values, or even approximate values would be great, thanks.

I wouldn't give that much for a 742.
They were the notorious one for cycle malfunctions!
Personally I would give more than $350 & only if the guy could demonstrate dumping two clips with-out problems!

I know the whole story on the 742's and bought 2 of them recently, anyway! they are for a special purpose for me. the seller let me try them out and they both function fine and there are no "chatter" marks on either one. they both look to be in great shape and have not likely been fired very much. One is a 308 carbine and the other is a 6mm. I paid $450. for each and the seller threw in a one pc Leupold base for the carbine. I just picked up one synthetic stock for one and looking for another one. So, is it possible to sneak in a free WTB add here? :D

Thanks for the replies fellas. I dont really want to keep these guns, gonna try them out and see how they perform, then try to list them accordingly.

So two-dogs, I may have some come up for sale in the near future, if you are interested.

no, sorry! these 2 that I have are both in special calibre's and in a specially chosen design in what they are, for a special purpose for me. 2 birds with one stone, so to speak, ha-ha! these two should last me the rest of my life time, I'm up there and aging and ain't getting any younger, they will both be carried often, as in always, but most likely not firded very often, but they are just there kept handy, just in case! I'm not a 740/742 fan by any means, it's just that what they can do for me, for my purpose, is why I bought these models. clear as mud, yeah I know!
oh well, if you are buying for resale, don't pay too much! $450. is about the top max that you will resell for, to another fool out there like me! Like they said: buy for 300-350 max to leave a profit margin for resale!

I bought two 742's off the EE in the last couple of years, one for $249 from a dealer and one for $250 from another member. .308 and 30-06. Both in good condition, but not great - the one from a private member did come with a cheap scope however.

I find it real strange that in the last few months or so, guys are wanting $450 for exactly the same rifles, in the same condition.

Thanks for all the input.

I fired off a clip through the 30-06 and it performed flawlessly, I was silently impressed! Haven't cleaned the 308 or tried it yet though.

The more replies the merrier though, I appreciate as much info as I can get, so I can throw them on the EE, and ask for a fair price.
