Remington Model 788 Question

I recently saw a pair of 788's for sale - one in 6mm and the other in 308. They were being sold as a pair as they only came with one bolt.
I've owned a few different 788's over the years but have never changed the bolts between different calibers.
Has anyone else seen/done this sort of thing before - using the same bolt in a 6mm and a 308 Remington Model 788?
Thanks.

The bolts will interchange mechanically. Headspace would need to be checked using gauges. It is possible that one bolt would be OK in two different rifles. Are the rifles cheap? Cheap enough to buy both, and be content to have one rifle, if only one has correct headspace.

788 bolts have a problem with detached handles. Replacement bolts are few and far between.

The 6mm's are somewhat hard to find, if the price was right I'd be inclined to buy, check headspace and put a WTB up in the EE for another bolt.

The 788's seem to sell for around $400-500 with out a scope, or maybe with some dated optics.

It can be done... there is the possibility that one bolt would headspace correctly with both actions right from the factory... but it does require checking with steel head space gauges. A gunsmith can also make alterations so both rifles are set with the same headspace for that bolt. That has been done in the past many times I am sure.

There was a company in the States that was supposed to making replacement bolts but don't recall who it was at this point.
