Hello there.

Looking to see if anyone has a Canadian source (or US source that will ship to Canada) for a reproduction Remington Model 8 wood set?

Looking to have a set for hunting that I can put on my 1910 Model 8.

Thanks!

Please do - I'd be interested to hear the outcome

Ordered and they have my payment info. It’s still pending. But I read on multiple forums etc, that they’re behind and will only bill when they have your item ready to ship.

Will advise and respond back here when I have more info.

Cheers!

I used a Browning Auto 5 butt stock to replace a bubba on a FN 1900 (the Model 8s European cousin - below) but for a Model 8, your approach would probably be the better option

Very cool! I never thought to try and fit an Auto 5 Buttstock. I like the look of it, but yes, for a Model 8, the straight grip would be more correct anyway. Would like an FN 1900 someday too.

I just thoroughly cleaned and repaired a very neglected Belgian made Auto 5 in 16 guage for a friend. Sure are neat shotguns. Browning was a very innovative man for his time.

I got the gunville stock set for mine. It’s a lot of work to fit and finish it but we’ll worth it. I’ll be posting pics of it soon.

I also found a source for the barrel recoil spring for .35 Rem/.303 Sav models.

I have one in 30 Rem
pretty sweet rifle just wish remington still made the ammo for it
I am set up to reload for it but would be nice to be able to get new ammo and brass

I'm fortunate to possess quite a few of these rifles - six FN1900s and 12 or 13 8/81s - still need an 81 in 35 REM to complete a collection of all the calibers offered.
I have had good luck in finding old 30 REM ammo at gunshows and, up until recently, it was reasonably priced.
32 was tougher to find I found.
Keep an eye on Rusty Wood for brass, currently sold out of 30 REM brass but they bring in some of the hard to find stuff for these spring poles

So I picked this Model 8 a few months back from another CGNer as a fixeruper for $550. I was looking for a Model 8 for some time and couldn't find one at any price besides one in .30 Rem that I really didn't want. This one was in .35 Rem so I took the chance that I might be able to restore it.

Had to replace: the bolt latch (missing), bolt latch spring (broken) action spring (no tension) barrel recoil spring (no tension), safety detent (missing), front swivel (missing), buttplate and screws (missing), action spring tube (missing, and I just made this out of tube steel from the handle of a dollar store hammer) as well as the stock set. I think a winchester 94(?) buttstock was fitted to make due and the forstock was held together with bolts and glue.

As I've said, I used the gunville set and it was NOT easy to fit. Its a great stock set and the wood is beautiful but if you are not the best at woodwork then you might be wasting money.

I rust blued everything as the blueing was almost all gone. And I'm very impressed with how good a job the fast rust bluing is! The barrel shroud and receiver look brand new and it's not coming off any time soon.

I picked up another barrel in .32 Rem with the springs and other hardware as well as a smaller bolt head and extractor. I've fired this with .35 rem (30 rounds) and .32 Rem (10 rounds) with no malfunction. All I have to do to switch calibers is swap the barrel assy and the bolt head and extractor and bend the mag lips in a bit for .32 Rem.

Serial number on this is 19xx which puts it as a first year model by my research. That would mean this is 116 years old.

Recoil spring source eh. I like the sounds of that. Care to share.

I ordered a 300mm spring from AliExpress and cut to length. It’s the correct diameter (19mm). The only catch is that you may have to hone your spring case a bit as the wire diameter is 1.5mm and I believe the original is more like 1.4mm.

When the spring compressed it was a few thousandths too big to fit in the case so I had to hone it slightly with sand paper. Works great now.

This is only for the .35 Rem/ .303 Sav as I haven’t seen a 17mm diameter spring that could be used for the smaller calibres.

If you need dimensions of the honed case and the cut spring just let me know and I will post them.
