Remington Model R-15

The consensus [on the forum] is that it's restricted. But I don't own one, and I didn't sleep in a holiday inn express last night either.

There are a few threads about this very topic - if you search around a bit, it you should be able to get the official word.

Yes it gets asked about a lot and I am also guilty of asking the same question... :)

What I am going to do is take this rifle info to my MP and talk up how great it would be for varmint/coyote hunting and yes hunting is part of his families history.

Should only be a OIC that could de-restrict this one because it was actually marketed for hunting.

Yeah Yeah I know a bunch of you are going to jump on board screaming that it can't be done my response to that is what have you done lately to de-restrict these kinds of rifles at least I'm trying most likely get shot down but I have to try.

...

It's not a consensus on this forum that decided they were restricted. ;) They are sitting on store shelves (have been for weeks) and they ARE restricted. The mighty RCMP made that decision months ago...

Given the amount of logic, technical detail, and common sense in our gun laws it's entirely possible that this rifle could be made non-restricted. That would actually make MORE sense than the SVD Dragunov being prohib as an AK variant.

this rifle was built and desingend for the sole perpus of hunting and is marketed as such. two companys were bought inorder to make this rifle happen. it is marted as a hunting rifle, evry aspect of its desine is for hunting from the crisp trigger to the paint job. this is a Remington hunting rifle for fudds, NOT a Bushmaster tac rifle for cops.

i would love to get one :)

My advice would be to lose the "all or nothing" attitude, and work to get THIS rifle reclassified. Remember, the government doesn't know a Bushmaster from an AR180B....and there is all the supporting documentation you could want showing this is a hunting rifle. It will be a WAAAAAY easier sell then going for all the AR's at the same time.

Now, once this one is reclassified, THEN go after the others :) You will have precident that no one has gone postal since reclassification...even the ones that were painted black!

You can then file on the basis that the Armalite, etc. are exactly the same gun, with the same (now established) purpose.

Work smarter people, Remington has given us a huge "in" with this rifle...don't waste it by trying to bite off too much at one time :)

+1 .. Very well stated.

I'd be happy with just that, I'd buy one, paint the receiver black, then stick all of my stuff onto this "non restricted" R-15 receiver.
