Hey guys have the opportunity to pick up a model seven xcr in .300 wsm with a Nikon monarch on it what's your honest opinion on these guns. Camo stock stainless fluted barrel. Would be used for a bear/moose/elk gun as well as a backup for deer.

I have a magnum model 7 in 300 SAUM, was a bugger to find a load for it, finally found 2 that shoot very good. It had a vias brake on it when I purchased it. Lots of weight loss and upgrades later and it’s 7 pounds with a medium weight scope on it. Could be in the 6.5 pound range with a lightweight scope. The recoil with the break is actually less than a 6.5 creedmoor.

Haven’t tried it without the break, but with the stock design I would think it wouldn’t be bad.

This gun is stock no break does have a recoil pad that came with the gun when purchased I've shot it before as the gun Is a family members definitely not a gun you want to shoot targets all day with but recoil is very manageable in hunting situations

What's a fair value on a setup like this?

The last one I saw for sale was $11-1200. Sold quick too... it just depends who is looking at the time and if it fits what the buyer wants.... I was building a lightweight setup, as many people do with these and it was what I wanted. If I would have found an XCR I would have preferred it due to the fluted barrel. That said condition dependant I would guess 9-1200 being reasonable .
