I know, I keep looking at them and wondering if I could throw a 'normal-sized' stock on one, save a few hundred bucks....

yeah Ive been thinking of a 7-08. Sell the youth stock (which would go fast, especially with an R3 pad on it), then buy a new McMillan Edge Hunter stock. The thing would be like 5 lbs. Top it with a Leupold VXII 2-7x33 in Talley Rings and it'd be like 6 I figure.

Of course I don't really like the open sights, I'd prefer stainless, and I kinda would rather have a 308. :? That puts me at a Model Seven SS for like $200 more.

Yeah but Tod stainless is so much more prettier... the ladies like that. I think a 5-6lb .308 Win would be a bit stout on recoil.... there is such a thing as going too light. 8)

I had a 6.5 lb 260 that wasn't too bad, shooting 140's @ 2700 fps.

I figure a 165 @ 2600 cant be much worse

I dont like more than about 20 ft-lbs of recoil. That is a 9 lb 7mm Mag or 8 lb 30-06. Or 6 lb 308  Ive shot bigger, owned bigger, but not my cup of tea. 15 ft-lbs of recoil is even better, hence the 25-284 and 260. :)

Ive shot my friends Model Seven SS 308 and its not too bad at all with factory 180's. Has an R3 pad though, and isnt all that light, 7.5 lbs or so with scope.

they're just cheap plastic junk, best reserved for leftover spaghetti rather than bolted to an action

my friend just got an HS Precision stock and it's awesome. The Ferrari of the rifle stock world. I think I have to have one.

Been looking at getting another flyweight rifle too, and these new Edge stocks are about 22 oz's! Always wanted a 308 too. :)

308 is fun :D We were jut working on loads for my BLR and a bud's new synthetic tikka 595 in 308 8) That gun makes so much sence its stupid!

For a fly weight 308 would be a good way to go. Especially with the right comfy stock 8)

ever since I borrwed a friends Model 88 for a mountain hunt (it was 8 lbs compared to my 10 lb 7mm) and dropped the hammer on a wolf with it, I've wanted one. That 165 gr. Nosler BT did quite the number on that guy.

To be honest anything based on the 308 case does it for me. I would though like the extra bullet weight the 308 has over the 7-08...and they shoot just about as flat downrange. Plus I already got a 260.

I think I'm trying to talk myself into a stainless M7 308

I was looking to buy one of these in .243 for my son---he's 12 and small for his age----he can't shoulder any of my rifles properly ( even my BL-22 is a stretch for him). Anyone looking to sell something like a youth rifle put out a post !.
