I've had a few of these over the years but nothing for the last year or so. I've always wanted an older one in 308 with open sights and the 18.5" barrel. And guess what, I got lucky and one popped up on the EE!

It's in great shape overall considering its age. I repainted the bottom metal with Alumahyde and it turned out well, though it's as expected not as nice of a blue as the rest of the metal on the action and barrel.

The trigger is good as is breaking consistently at about 2.75 lbs., I suspect the previous owner had something to do with that. ;)

I like the factory stock and it's a pretty nice walnut for a Remington but I decided to order a Bell and Carlson in olive green with black speckle, which should be here in a few weeks.

I used a Weaver base with Leupold QRW rings for now. It was for a 700 SA which has the longer rear bridge, so I had to chop off the rear section and repaint....,again with Alumahyde, great stuff! Scope is a Leupold VX3 2.5-8.

I may go with the Leupold quick release base and rings, if I can find one. So far no luck.I think that's about all I'm going to do to it for the time being.

If you have one of these handy little rifles, post a pic with a description so I can plagiarize some ideas! :)

I used to have a SS synthetic in 7mm-08 with a Swarovski Habicht 6x. They are very handy little rifles. I could never understand why Remington didn't throw a lightweight synthetic stock on them and market them as an ultralight mountain rifle. Mind you they did have the KS versions from the Custom Shop, but they were very expensive. Still, they were around 5.5lbs long before the Kimber Montana came around.

I've always liked the compact Model 7's... but as a died in the wool Ruger fan, I went with Ruger M77 Compacts and Frontiers instead...

I am going to make a few sets of talley style, 2-piece bases for my m7's. I hate the lack of decent mounts for them.

The m7 3 holer hole spacing and the newer 4 holer is exactly the same. You can add the 4th hole on a 3 holer and all the newer 2-piece bases fit and work properly. That is one of the first things I do to a 3 holer, when I end up with one including the 600/660 series

Yeah, I may end up doing that, though I just found a one pice QR base on eBay. The confusing part is that some one piece bases which fit the 700 SA will work on the 7, some won't. It seems to depend on the length.

Nine of these nifty little rifles in the safe at the moment, had 10 but just gave one in 300 WSM to a young up and coming elk killer.

I wanted a KS in .35 Rem when they first introduced them, but cost & wait time kept me out. Folks that need scope bases can check out Warne. They make a 1 pc. unit for the older Model 7 and 2 pc. sets for the newer version in standard as well as extended type.

Here's some pics of my Mod 7s.............not sure if I have shots of all of them

These are a 350 RM (without scope) and a 7-08

Here are a couple more......260 Rem in the foreground and another 350 RM in an original KS in the back.

Don't seem to have any photos of the others..... I have a 223, newer one in plastic ( donor for the 23 Pipsqueak) and a 358 Win in an old semi Schnabel wood stock I got from Ted.

Those m7ms have always appealed to me, very nice.

For those with more money than me, there is a 308 mannlicher model 7 in Edmonton cabelas (south side).

Last time I was in to the Fine Gun room at the Barrie, ON Cabela's they had a laminate mannlicher Model 7 in .308... price was high though... I don't recall exactly what it was.

The model 7 CDL in .243 I bought off Supercub this summer may have benched my model 700 BDL .30-06 from deer season this year. Although the Winchester .38-55 and Stevens .223 are currently make very reasonable arguments for why they should get the nod for a whitetail kill this fall... decisions decisions
I'll post picks of the model 7 asap.
