hi i have a remington modell 700 BDL, i need a starting load that will set me in the right direction. it needs to be a load with 150gr. bullets. i need type of propellant and how much, oh and brass... what kind?

I normally use 165 grain bullets for hunting out of my Tikka and 175 grain bullets for punching paper with my 700Varmint. But, I have tried the following with 150 grainers:

48 grains BL-C2, and, 46 grains Varget. With all .308 loads I use Remington or Winchester cases and Winchester large rifle primers.

Good luck!

Most loading books have the information you need. I use the Nosler book and have found the load they list as the most accurate is often very accurate in my rifle too...

What loading manuals do you have?

You have a hunting rifle,so first select the 150gr hunting bullet that you wish to use.I've found all of Nosler,Sierra, and Hornady 150gr bullets to be accurate and effective on deer. There is really very little to choose from among primers and cases as all commercially available types will perform acceptably, although magnum primers are recommended for ball powder loads in cold weather.Do not mix different brands of cases or primers when reloading a lot of ammunition. For greater accuracy cases should be trimmed to uniform length, primer pockets uniformed, flash holes deburred and cases segregated by weight. The .308 performs well with a wide range of powders.IMR 4895 and 4064 are excellent, as are H4895,Varget,BLC2 and W748-and there are others.Get a reloading manual or 2-Hornady,Nosler,Speer,Sierra,Lyman are all good.Start with minimum loads and work up observing pressure indicators and other cautions in the manuals.Do not exceed published maximum loads.Rifles are individuals and have a preference for particular propellants and bullets,so there is no universal best load for a particular cartridge.Having said that,IMR 4895 is a classic accuracy propellant for the .308 Win and I've found it to work well with a variety of bullets in a number of .308s.

Well since the bullet Diameter is .308 I would agree you would get that size of hole.
Are the groups with in 1 or 1.5 inches if so, go with it.
You are not giving us here much to go on, I assume you are meassuring the hole for a single shot bullet hole in the paper.
As for a 150 bullet I have used them in a 308 but like mentioned I would rather a 165 they are more accurate for me offer good velocity, and I just like the 165 for a hunting bullet, usually a Hornady Sp or ballistic tip for deer and a nosler part for moose or bear when i carry a 308.
Give us some more detail of what you are wanting and we can answer more specific.
Regards
