Remington MSR Sniper Platform

It seems to be a solid platform which offers several advantages over the current system.

The weight is of no concern as Mustang has pointed out carrying a SAW or C9 is over 20lbs and if you want another 200 cap magazine add another 7lbs. people get used to their gear weight.

The stock turns right to protect the bolt. As others have questioned the stock originally was tested folding to the left. The US military did some testing jumping, fast roping and other maneuvers and quickly found out that the stock folding to the right was more advantages. The rail allows mission specific ancillaries NVD, thermals, lasers and other things to suit the task at hand…..If they can low crawl with all the optics on they should have no issues with megatron like stock system. You will also note from the pic at the beginning of this thread that the but section does no protrude below the bottom of the pistol grip or magazine

As to too many adjustments one only has to look at the number M24 systems that have the highly specialized military duck tape and foam for the cheek piece to understand the adapt ability of the MSR for guys 5’6 to 6’5.

The two things that stand out for me are the picatinny rail which is bolted to the receiver AND forestock eliminating inconsistent torque on the fore end when loading the bipod unlike the McRee or Tacmod and the aluminum chassis . Anytime you can get a bolt on system that will allow you to drop in a receiver from another rifle will minimal work is a good thing out of a production system.

As an FYI this gun (in 300WM ) was used to win the USASOC invitation-only Sniper Competition in early December

Looks like the matches in 2009 had a positive affect on Remingtons submission.

They should have just went with the Sauer 200/202 series. They have calibre converson and 10 round magazines in 308 on the tgt version. So they could make them in other calibres. The stock is close to this savage type.
