I'm in a bind
currently can't decide which rifle to buy
*remy 700P LTR
*remy VSF
*tikka t-3 varmint(either stainless or blued)
(all .308 by the way)
always been a diehard remington fan, but the tikka t-3 seems quite respectable
currently running a rem 700 BDL in 7rem mag
weight not critical
80% bench work
20% whitetail work
300 or 400 meters max.
any replys would be appreciated
thanks:)

Well if your a die hard Remington fan your probably not going to want to hear how much better the T-3 is.
Seriously I suggest you go and handle both rifles and look them over... cycle the bolts on both rifles and try the triggers... the quality choice is a no brainer.;)

problem is that in my area i haven't seen a VSF or LTR
only a VLS, but its a bit heavy and sorta uncomfortable
of the 3, onlt the tikka i have seen, and i can admit it is a very nice rifle
Brandon, mb only has 2 gun shops(jo-brooks and Home building center) that i'm aware of, and wolverine doesn't have any of remingtons in stock out in virden
so... i'll trust your opinions, eek!hehehe

Winnipeg is only a couple hour drive to the east, and at the price that Robby charges at Jo Brooks, that'd almost pay for the gas, not to mention the better selection of rifles available in Winnipeg.

Can you buy replacement parts for the Tikka that aren't plastic?
I sure like the T3 varminter in stainless, but I don't like plastic either.

Oh, for the love of...
It's not plastic! At least not what you think of as plastic. It's a glass fibre reinforced composite polymer... Okay, it's plastic, but it's strong plastic... ;)

I have not seen a broken, bent or malfunctioning Tikka magazine since they started making them. I have seen lots of screwed Remington Mags this year.... one out of five actually works in the 7400-7600 series. I think they are making them in special school.

Tikka's are accurate, but way too much plastic! I had on and traded it a week later. Just didn't feel right to me. I have three heavy barrel Remington 700s. A 700VS (matte black, H.S. Precision Stock, early 1990s prod. .308) 700VS (same as the previous, .22-250) and a Sendero in 7mm Rem Mag. My brother has an LTR in .308 and a 700 VSSF II. The LTR will shoot the balls of a gnat at 300 yards using Winchester White Box FMJ! (little exaggeration, but that rifle will feed and shoot just about anything at less than .5 MOA) However, he did have some issues with the black finish on the flutes of his VSSF II. Damn finish started flaking off the fluted stainless steel barrel. Remington was friggin' useless for warranty work, but the rifle does shoot!

The best clip I've ever functioned hands down is the T3 plastic clip. Call it a pos but the single column loads flawlessly and smoother than goose ####.

Of any of the problems I've heard about the T3, not a single one had to do with the plastic parts. You mat not like plastic because you consider yourself so much better than plastic but it works and has proved to be reliable so it really comes down to preference. If you want to judge it by reliability, it's a winner.

there is a reason so many guns are built on the 700 action its a good quality peice of hardware and the triggers with a little tweeking are about as good as they come i love my 7mm mag and my 22250 both 700 i hate plastic its ment for air soft and paint balls not high power weapons

:D

I don't think that classifies as wear and tear. You broke it!:p

I've heard many times of people having to do this and that to their metal mags to get them to fuction ALL the time. I'm sure you could smash one too.:D

There are many reasons why a lot of customs are built on the 700 action. I don't think it's simply because they are the best quality.

I'll take the Tikka/Sako trigger any day, with no tweaking.

You forgot Glocs too.

How many weapons have "plastic" stocks. I think plastic has come a long way. They don't make the parts out of the same plastic as your Barbi. ;)
