A question for you guys that build your own pillars when you pillar bed a remington m700, how do you contour the pillar to fit the bottom of the action at the front screw, do you use a hole saw in a drill press of a certain diameter or ?????

Thanks

You can do anything to get it roughly contoured or leave it flat ... you should be bedding on top of it afterwards anyway... The purpose of a pillar is to prevent the stock from crushing... not really a big deal on laminated and other wood stocks but with some very light fiberglass stocks it is really needed...

You can also pour pillars using bedding compound. I picked that up from Bill Leeper and it works fine...

Thanks Dennis, I'm going to be working on an insanely light aftermarket synthetic for my cutom Titanium, pillars are a mandatory install on this one. But I wonder if pouring pillars will be acceptable. Probably easier and no chance of them popping loose with extreme cold like I hear aluminum can.

What do you think? Are poured pillars every bit as good as aluminum ones. Which do you think is lighter, a whack of bedding poured into pillars or aluminum sleeves?

thanks

Maybe Bill will read this post and comment. I seem to remember he felt they were good... and I think about 1/2 inch in diameter... the weight difference would be very small...
