Sounds like you got a "hot " one there! Could be that one case was overloaded by accident. Are you weighing each charge, or do you have a powder measure? Sometimes part of a charge of coarse powders like IMR 4350 can "bridge" in the powder funnel and then drop into the next case when you move it, thus overcharging the second case. Did you check the level of powder in each case visually before seating the bullet? This can sometimes reveal such a mistake. 55 grains of 4350 behind a 180 in a 30-06 is not a max load in any '06 I have ever shot, so there would have to have been some extra powder in one of those loads. Regards, Eagleye.

that was my first batch of reloads..i put every one of them on the scale to check the weight of them .. i loaded up 50 cartridges and checked so they all looked like same powder added ..they all looked good to me..then i added the bullet..
i still have the spent cartridge jammed in the ejector...looks like i need a gun smith for this one...im hoping it was a cartridge failure and not a reloading one

Fog...

Cartidiges just don't fail like that. You or the gun did something wrong. Likely an overload. Maybe, but I don't know how, if the breech wasn't closed right when the rifle fired, the unsupported brass could blowout .

Did the shot prior to that one sound funny at all?

shot off about 40 rounds before this happened...but as norm said above maybe the breech did not close enough.....as i did have a few problems with a few shell,s that would not breech...
so does this mean in seating the bullet to high??

How fast did you fire those 40 shots?

If the chamber of your rifle got very hot it is possible a previously safe load could develop excessive pressures when fired.

Not max, but close.

In my best prosecuting attorney's voice  "MR Fogducker, DID YOU or DID YOU NOT work up a load using these components? I remind you, you are under oath and we have just read evidence that is most damning........"

One thing it could be, if you didn't use this powder before is a fast batch of powder.

Give us some more clues. What did the first 40 spent primers look like? The recoil feel comparable to factory?

ah ha a likely problem :D it was hot i could not hold it for over a sec

If it fired without the breech being fully closed, I would suggect you thank your lucky stars and take your gun to a gunsmith.

Only if the loaded round sat in the hot chamber long enough to get pretty hot itself, it might cause a pressure problem. So what Did the other primers look like? Answer or I'll have you held in contempt...... :D

rapid fire does nothing for accuracy or testing of handloads

space your shots out so the barrel doesn't heat up much...

You mean it's stuck in the chamber?
Tap it out with a cleaning rod, and inspect for damage to the case, and the chamber.
Or do you mean that the case head came off? :?:

its out of the chamber with a tap...but the spent cartradge is jammed in the breech bolt...at the end were it gets fired and suppose to eject

hope this pic works..i got the casing out...had to bend the end with pliers and smack with a hammer to dislodge...the bottom of the casing is bulged a bit...the primmer hole is about 1/16 larger now then the original primmer...its shown beside one of the other reloads[/img]
