Working on a buy of some shotguns and he says there is a pump remington 44 mag cal rifle in the mix that I have to take. I have not seen the guns yet but was wondering did remington only make the 44 40 in the 14 1/2 model.
He says it is stamped with 44 rem or 44 WCF but I have never heard of a 44 mag cal rem pump. What about the model 141 did they come 44 cal.
In good condition would it be in the 400-500 range since that maybe what I have to pay extra. I know need pics but just looking for a ball park now. If it is other than the normal rifle stuff anything in particular I should take a hard look at.
Thanks in advance for the help

I have seen exactly one in the flesh, it was marked 44 WCF. Value depends on condition, as you know, most 14 1/2 pumps were well used. It was the only 44 pump made by Remington, a slick working rifle. The 14 and 14 1/2 were very well made with a lot of complicted machining, as labour costs rose the 141(basically a 14 with more modern stock and longer barrel) was discontinued in favour of the more powerful and MUCH cheaper to build model 760.

I have been researching the old 44Remington CF only ever chambered in one firearm for a very few years - the Remington Model 1875 revolver. In the course of this research I came across a reference to some early Remington pump rifles that actually were marked "44 Rem" which was in fact just the Winchester 44-40 (44 WCF). The explanation was that Remington at that time hated putting any reference to Winchester on their rifles. If I find the reference again I'll edit my post to include it.

Thanks would it be stamped as he stated?? rem 44 or 44 wcf
Do you know if rem made any other 44 40 model pumps???

Here is the stamp you will see

and the 14 1/2 was only available in two calibers 44-40 and 38-40
I would agree with value around the 4-500 dollar mark, but I have seen them sell for much more!

Look for the Dominion of Canada proof mark - these guns have links to WW1

Thanks guys for the help it is greatly appreciated. Unfortunately looks like my bulk buy has gone south. He had a bunch of old 1100's and wingmasters most of which I was going to part out and some other single shot stuff and this one 44 40 which was a 14 1/2. Exactly as the pics posted above but no Dominion stamp
I allowed 450 in the deal for the 14 1/2 since it was in good shape other than some small stock cracks but some where on the internet he seen one listed for 2500 so thinks his is worth 2000. Unreal. Oh well

I had one some years ago that I had the barrel set back so I could shoot 44mag out of it...Sold it to a friend who is still rollin deer with it...Worked/works great!

That is the thing that sucks about the Internet. Some guy wants to sell a 94 Winchester carbine so he goggles 1894 Winchesters for sale, ends up on Leroy Merz site for collector Winchesters and sees several for $1500-$4000. So he immediately deduces that his standard 94 carbine must be in the same ballpark and if you try and tell him different he figures you are lying and trying to screw him.
