I'm trying to disassemble my Remington R-15 to re-finish it, and I'm stuck on the gas block and free-float tube.
I removed the set-screws under the gas block and the gas tube roll pin, but it won't slide off. It appears that some of the loctite they used on the set-screws got in between the block and the barrel. We use acetylene at work to free up fasteners using loctite, but I'm afraid to heat up the barrel. Are barrels heat treated, will heating it up anneal it?
Also, the free-float tube threads on to the barrel nut, however it has a knurled portion right at the end. I'm trying to figure out if this is a jam nut or just part of the tube. I'm thinking it's a jam nut because the tube is not butted up against the barrel nut. I would post pictures, but I don't know how.
Help!
