problems with the m305 vs the AR platform in either .308 or .223 for me is the lack of a decent mounting system, face it the m305 was designed for open sights, the scopes and mounts are only an after thought.... the flattop ar platform was built for optics.

oh, yeah, no kidding. Sure you can mount a scope on it, and you can even get it to work well, but you add even more weight, and probably worse is that your brass will get even more abused.
