My Remington Commander arrived today. Can't wait to shoot it tonight at our weekly IDPA practice.

I like all the features: grooved front strap, dark aggressive grips, day-glo front sight, Novak-type adjustable rear sight, extended mag release, front slide grooves, etc.

This is my first Commander sized 1911 experience. The balance is noticeably different than a 5" model. This one has all SS controls. Didn't think I'd like it but it's growing on me.

Stripped it, cleaned it, relubed (CLP) and reassembled it. Slide to frame fit is pretty good, definitely better than either of my wife's Ruger SR1911s which rattle when you shake them. Trigger pull is a tad heavier than I'd like, but clean. I'm sure it will wear in.

Life is good .....

Range report:

Load was 200 SWC/4 grs Tite Group and 230 RN with same charge. Not surprising, recoil with the 230 RN was heavier, but manageable.

Off hand at 10m, it was easy to get 8 rd groups you could cover with a twooney. Head shots are going to be duck soup. At 20m it printed 3-1/2". Similar results at all other distances. Fast out of the holster due to the shorter barrel. Two fast aimed shots requires a little more focus than with a 5" 1911, but with more practice, will not be an issue. Sight acquisition with the day-glo front sight is very quick.

BUT - those attractive dark grey grip panels had to go as soon as I got home! The aggressive checkering was punishing on the meat of my support hand thumb. Hours later I still have the marks. The gun now wears attractive grips from a Ruger SR1911 with less aggressive checkering.

I think I'm going to like this gun ..... a lot!

Just had it pointed out to me that I mistakenly referred to my CMD as a RUGER. Brain fart on my part. It is a REMINGTON, of course.

The big REMINGTON logo on the slide was a good clue .....

i saw one of those Remmy enhanced commanders and while i told myself no more 1911's i have been casting a lusting eye towards that gun a lot of late.

wouldnt surprise me to see it come home one day..... soon

Tried to change the title but couldn't. Don't know how to 'bump' on the EE either. Gave up trying to post pics years ago. I send pics to email and still sell guns.

I compared the R1 CMDR to my wife's SR1911s and the Rugers lose. They rattle when you shake them. The R1 CMDR is as tight as my Series '70 Gold Cup, and that is saying something.
Overall fit and finish of this little gun is amazing. I gave up looking for flaws. I installed rosewood grip panels from an SR1911 on the gun and they look good with the silver logo on them. That's going to cause confusion in more minds than just mine.

Eventually I'll reshape the safety ever which is a pretty wide shelf, modelling after my Ed Brown ambi-safety levers.

I'm having to adapt to this little gun as it differs from a 5" Gov't model in balance and recoil, especially with 230 RN. Nice problem to have. Life is good .....

To edit, you have to click, go advanced, it then lets you change the heading.
