Gents:
If I may add my 2 cents.
When I first had a look at the R-25 and or the R-15, I was not particularly impressed. My research at the time showed that The R-15 (223) is made by Newly acquired the Bushmaster division for Remington, and the R-25 (308) Is mad by DPMS for Remington. In the past, Both names are not necessarily associate with producing a quality product, and I have said so on previous occasions, but one knowledgeable nutter in particular called me to task on this, and as a result I forced myself to have a second look.
In the past, particularly DPMS has had a reputation for being shoddy with regards to quality control. However over the last few years, they have been working very hard to right that wrong, and are starting to turn out a quality product for the dollars spent.
Further, there are at least 1 different board member who I trust, and he is having fantastic result with his DPMS rifle in 308.
Well Long story short, I decided I needed to have a detailed "hands-on" look at this so I bought a use R-25 off the board, and while I have not had it totally apart, I must say for the $'s spent I am suitably impressed.
The upper & lower are very "beefy" and their fit is very good with little to no wiggle. The Free float tube, while simple, is solid, and has slots for the addition of picitiny rail pieces. The bolt & carrier group look very solid, and the barrel is heavy under the hand guards, and actually balances pretty good. While there were no sights provided the front gas block is railed for the addition of an AR-10 style front folding sight (they are slightly higher than the AR-15 version) The Flat top upper will take any sight or optic you like.
I have not had it to the range yet, however I have a feeling 1.5 MOA as long as I do my part should not be an issue.
Further, the R-25, in my understanding, will take the same mag as the Kac SR-25, the POF piston 308, and the DPMS rifles, and in the US, magpul has already released the P-Mag in 308 for the above mentioned, which in my opinion will be head an shoulders above any mag used in the comprable Armalite /Noveske platform.
No post would be complete without some pictures, and this is what my rig looks like at present. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but if you can get past that "Green" I think you will find an increadable value for the $'s spent.
Look forward to any well thought out response you migh have.
regards
