Anyone here have any experience with these? I just found one for sale for $399 in good condition. I haven't seen it yet but it sounds good. Anything to watch out for with these?

I'm not too sure about the overall condition, will have to check it out inperson tomorrow, if it's still around. I take it you wouldn't use it as a regular shooter?

Its its original finish with original parts then the price is better than a steal.

Check this site for 1911-A1 ID guide.

That would be an excellent price if it is indeed a Remington-Rand mfg 1911A-1. That is the overall pistol is original and unfinished. And the frame and top-end [slide] are Remington-Rand manufacture. There's a lot of "mix-masters" floating around out there... Remington-Rand slides on Colt or Ithaca mfg frames and visa versa, etc with mix/match of other USGI parts.

Best way to determine would be to post some pics. And knowing the serial number you can check the website previously indicated to see if your serial number is in the batch ascribed to Remington-Rand and the year your frame was made. Plus pics might help sort out some of the other questions, too. Like is it original finish, are the small parts USGI, has it been in to a military arsenal for a refurb ["SA", "AA" or "RIA" stamped]. And what inspectors initials are on the frame just above the magazine release button ["FJA" for Remington-Rand & Ithaca; "RS", "WB" or "GHD" for Colt mfg frames].

But even if it's a refinished mix-master, $399 is still a pretty good price for a piece of WWII nostalgia.... ;)

These guns are worth a few bucks (and appreciating all the time) - and at that price it would be hard to really go that wrong - even if it was a bit of a frankenstein.

Do some homework and be a smart buyer - know what you're doing and why - and you don't have to justify it to anyone - as long as YOU'RE happy with your purchase.
