Remington Rider derringers by Pedersoli

Well, mine arrived. I am surprised at just how small it really is. It falls easily into the palm of my medium sized hand. It is impressive how stoutly made it is, it has a good weight for such a tiny pistol. The fit, finish and case hardening on it are impressive too. The barrel is just over two inches long and fully rifled. The sights are a small bead on the front and small rear dovetailed into the top of the breach. The trigger is pretty good, better than a lot of the small spur trigger derringers I have seen and used. All in all, it's a nice little gun.
It's rifled for 4.3mm shot, so it's a bit smaller than .177. A standard BB rolls in but will not enter the rifling, even when fired, but these are steel. A .177 pellet is too long to go in and still insert the cap adaptor/bolt mechanism. I did cut a few pellets right at the waist and the front portion chambers. The percussion caps will drive this out at quite a speed. I haven't tried it for accuracy of any sort yet. The front of the pellet will penetrate into a cardboard box but it stays inside. I am going to look for some BB lead shot to try next and might order a box of the proper shot from Cabela's as they list it cheaply. I hope it's not stopped at the border for feeding this dangerous device.
I will get some pictures and results over the weekend.

How about this one, I wonder if Marstar will consider importing them?

Cabelas won't ship pellets for this thing across border , I tried.:( # 1 shot will fit however somewhat undersize . Daisy premium BB won't chamber , and all my .177 pellet types won't fit. Did anyone find a canadian source for the 4.3mm pellets ?
It certainly fires the #1 shot ok , punches thru coreplast signboard . How much better a proper fitting ball would be has to wait.
Well made little piece , mines in the white , should have a key chain link on it though

would it possible to deepen the chamber to fit .177 pellets?

It has a two piece chamber , pellet into removable chamber then insert into gun . Think of an inline muzzeloader with the nipple on back of barrel , remove nipple , put pellet into backside of nipple and reinsert. No threading , friction fit . Cap and fire. This perhaps could be enlarged to accept .177 , but bore size would have to be enlarged as well . Barrel is rifled .

As this is really a novelty perhaps better kept as it is . Cheap enough to play with though:D

will keep an eye on marstar for ammo........

I bought two of these from Dixie gun works before marstar brought them in and there little cases to .loyalist arms will have some pellets soon but I think there over priced . I made a swaging die and have been using 177 round balls made buy gammo but I dont think they are pure lead I also tried BB shot mine must be poor manufacture not very round but they are a awell built novelty but a webley air pistol would have more power

I havent heard much talk about these in a while so i thought i'd refresh the topic...

Who out there has one?

Imressions?

Im thinking of picking one up for sh*ts and giggles.

Okay, as a 'parlour-pistol' they may not give you fantastic accuracy, but they are fun. I picked one up a while ago, as soon as I found out that they weren't classified as firearms. BB size lead shot works okay in them, but I find the copper-plated round lead pellets made for them works a little better. I've never tried steel BBs, mostly from concerns over the rather shallow rifling.
Why did I want it & why do I like it? I had some spare cash, & it's fun. I like it; why do other folks like that airsoft stuff? I don't, but for those that do: fill your boots, guys?
It easily gives me 'minute-of-pop-can' accuracy to the end of the deck-rail, and everybody else at the last black-powder match I fired found it just as fun. The little cannon, too.....:D

"...these derringers are classified by the Canadian Firearms Centre as 'non-firearms' therefore no P.A.L. is required to acquire one...

Can someone who doesn't have a firearms license buy percussion caps?
