I have heard rumours through a local gunshop that Remington has had some problems with the rifled shotgun barrels splitting or bursting when used with Remington copper solid sabots. Has anyone else heard anything or experienced anything related to this? I have been shooting these for several years through my 870 with no problem, but when you hear something like this it makes you a little nervous to pull the trigger again.

I'm happy to hear that this rumour appears to be exactly that, a rumour. The reason I posted my question in the first place was because the person I heard it from is usually well informed, and I have a severe allergic reaction to chunks of steel getting lodged into my skull. Most of the members here seem to be very experienced, and I figured if there was any truth in this, someone else out there would have heard about it. I have been using this combination of shotgun/sabots for almost 10 years now and, to the dissapointment of many deer, I have had great success with it. Thanks for the feedback.

Reminton has always had a barrel problem, like combat comando's leaving cleaning rags in, damn things just won't hold togeather. :wink:
No, the guns are good.
I have a barrel that's slpit, but that was from an improperly reloaded slug. The petal got folded over and made the wad and slug too tight for the bore, raising the pressures to bursting point.
The splits are both sides of the barrel, right where the info is stamped into it.
