Can anyone tell me what is the difference between remington model 7 and 700?
they look the same to me...
also thinking of building remington rifle in either 223 243 or 22-250 is it viable option? i see a lot of take off barrels mag parts and stocks....might be hard to find an action...i have one in 3o8 will the bolt work for this application? just want a basic rifle and dont have 700-900 to spend...
anything i need to know please help...thanks

On the Model 7, the rear bridge is shorter, the screw holes are closer together, the tang is smaller, it uses a smaller rear screw through the tang, the trigger is the same but further forward compared to a 700. The bolt stop is different, and the stocks are not interchangeable. The barrel threads are the same, as are the recoil lugs. Basically I believe Remington designed it to be a compact 700.

The M7 only comes in one action length, short. There are more aftermarket parts available for the 700 and most build a custom out of the 700 action.

You can build a .243 or .22-250 (or any other short action cartridge with a .473 case head) off your .308 action. The .223 uses a different size bolt head, and the feed rails would be a fair bit tighter.
