Remington safety malfunction?

When customers ask what they could do about cleaning a trigger I always told them to remove the stock and flood the trigger group with lighter fluid and blow it dry with compressed air a few times, then then squirt in some G96 and blow it dry... if the adjustments were correct to start with the trigger should be just fine. Do that every year or so. If the trigger was gunked up solid and failing - flood it with lacquer thinner a couple of times first...

Do you have an opinion on using brake clean rather than lighter fluid?

I liked lighter fluid as it being a petroleum product leaves a bit of an oily residue.

Is what it says on website - maybe Timney - lighter fluid will leave just trace of lube behind, once the volatile components evaporate away - all that their triggers want. The CRC Brakleen from Canadian Tire sometimes leaves a white powdery stuff behind; the CRC "Clean-R-Carb" leaves about nothing, when it evaporates.

Just be sure and use winter diesel in those northern latitudes. What's your plan for barrel/cartridge?

It will be a 35 Whelen as a good member here sourced for me a stainless RKS gain twist 35 cal tube a while back.
I have a few others to barrel as well. Hoping to get to them this winter.

If anyone is interested. I got ahold of Gravel Angency and the recall is no longer being done after Remington declared bankruptcy.

I'm going to see if I can find a local gunsmith to look at it for him.

Well that's a shame. Guess I'm not surprised though.

Can they at least tell you if it's a rifle that was impacted by the recall? Or is that information they no longer have access to?

It takes a skilled smith less time than that to "fix" a 700 trigger... for a fraction of the cost of an after market trigger... I used to do them for $30-$40. Crisp, light, and safe.

There must be guys out there doing them...?

I'm not sure . I gave them the serial number but they didn't say one way or the other.

You OLD Fudds are always fixing up old Phucking Junk just spend the money and replace it . JMO RJ

Apparently Young Fudds aren't SMARTER than the equipment that they are attempting to operate.

Which Shoe Fits??

10minutes-
to completely disassemble the trigger group-removing trigger lever 1/8" pivot pin.
clean inside/outside of housing & all internals & bolt stop w/ naptha(Coleman Fuel) & Acetone or MEK(Methyl Ethyl Keytone) w/a Q tip.
adjusted to 3-3.5 Lbs.....CORRECTLY....w/ ZERO Trigger Lever to Connector BACK LASH.

hint-
The longer piloted Overtravel Screw goes in the top front of the housing....then install the sear/safety bar spring as NOT to destroy the spring.
The shorter piloted Pull Weight Screw goes in the bottom front of the housing.
Grind/Wire brush a radius on the pull weight spring as not to allow engagement into the #6 threads in the housing.
The Radius End screw is the sear engagement screw that goes in the aft end of the housing...installed 1.5 threads below flush prior to installation.

There is a WITNESS hole in the LH side of the trigger housing to see connector to sear engagement....use it & do NOT crowd engagement.

I just resolved that issue, on mine, by replacing the trigger with a Trigger Tech. More often than not, the issue is with people trying to get the lightest trigger, with the least amount of creep, resulting in unintentional discharges. That was the issue with mine. The previous owner had messed with the trigger. Instead of wondering if I had solved the problem by messing with the trigger, I dropped in a new trigger, and it only took minutes. Now the trigger pull os light, and crisp, and does not discharge when it has a mind to.
