Remington Seeks Financing To File For Bankruptcy

I own a few BDLs and i agree one of the nicest looking factory rifles EVER ! Kirt " THE POACHER " used a M700 ADL LIKE the one pictured to POACH all his record deer ! :sok2 :( RJ

AS I recall Darner's story, nobody is actually sure if he even shot any of the record deer...... He was convicted of trafficking trophy mule deer heads....

yup.... BDL's are great looking, shooting & functioning rifles.

The Bdl is imo one of the nicest looking rifles around. I bought a recent manufacture 700 bdl off the exchange a month ago. 270 win. The trigger adjusted easily to 2.5lbs. Bedded it without even firing it first. Shot it yesterday with factory Rem corelokt 130gr. Two groups at 3/4". Not surprised...

It's never good when a firearms manufacturer can't be run at a profit. Especially one with as long and storied history as Remington.

We have 3 recent Rems in our family- My teenage boys scrimped and saved their birthday and Christmas money to buy themselves a 12 gauge SPS 870 this winter and I purchased a SPS M700 Varmint to build into a target rifle last fall. None of them will win any prizes for looks, but they are $450-$600 firearms with Remington's cheapest finish. Fit and finish on all is fine, given the price point. And all function and shoot flawlessly. No complaints here. Hopefully Remington can get this financial mess sorted out.

The North American mass market, served by the USA manufacturers has consistently chosen the very cheapest possible firearms. The Europeans have quite a different approach, but lately have come out with economy models for the North American market. Even so, the Europeans tend to maintain a reasonable minimum of quality standards. I used to respect and crave Remington products. But after starting to collect and shoot German firearms more than twenty years ago, like Sauer, Merkel, Krieghoff, and the cheaper but still excellent products from CZ of the Czech Republic and Sako of Finland, Beretta of Italy, I haven't bought any Remington stuff since. I generally buy 2-5 firearms per year, so I'm not a typical buyer perhaps. Before dropping Remington from consideration, I had a long list of Remington QC problems, bad triggers, bad fit and finish, mis-aligned scope base holes, sticky action parts, warped stocks, etc. etc. I have never, not once, had similar trouble with a European firearm.
European ammunition is superior too, but I do economize with American made Federal or Hornady ammo quite often. Remington ammunition has been substandard, just like their firearms. Especially when compared with Norma, Lapua, Fiocchi, RWS, etc.
So Remington certainly hasn't got any money lately from me, a buyer who is willing to pay a premium for quality. Remington in recent years had a focus on the bottom end of the market, with low profit margins coupled with shoddy manufacturing and poor QC. With predictable results.
I don't wish the company any harm, but won't miss them.

All the US makers are in trouble as the bubble has burst. The panic buying frenzy could not last forever, and now with Trump nobody is panicking. How many companies expanded and expanded to compete with each other for every little niche out there? Remington, S&W, SIG and Ruger making 1911's (and Glock knock offs)...WHY? Stick to what you are good at FFS.
Ruger is on their what, 6th poly pistol now, how many of the "P" series are still being made? Oh right none...and Remington shouldn't even be in the pistol market to begin with.
The market is not that infinite. I think Apple will probably be hurting hard by year end as well trying to push the X at $1000...just insane price for basically obsolete tech.

european market is different. there is come countries where the number of rifle you can own is limited to 5 or 6, the reason you see is different and even on the european market the companies are stopping to make high end products because they are not selling as much of you think and new generation are not much into shooting or hunting ... plus the hassle to get the firearms permit.

If only they still made firearms like this:

(My 1979 BDL "Varmint Special")

In today's age of endless internet reviews, you really can't get away with piss poor QC in the long run.

Maybe they will end up getting bought up by an entity that cares about its brand and brings back the old quality.

They have been driven into the ground, just a shell of what they used to be.

I hope someone buys them out and sorts out their issues. Remington has great designs. They have just been driven into the ground with the accountants. Such hit and miss with quality. It’s really too bad.

Iliion NY makes Remington, Bushmaster, Marlin, and something else I'm forgetting. Must be a pretty big shop...but anything I've gotten there lately has been very well made (1 Bushy, 1 336, several 700's).
I don't think it's quality that hurt them as much as the frenzy has subsided. Shareholders probably bailing as the company is only making $500m this year instead of $1.5b.
