Even though they were on their way to bankruptcy, the versamax was, is, and forever will be the softest shooting, most reliable gas operated semi auto shotgun ever built. Period. Everybody can chide in and say I'm wrong but I bet whatever you wanted that yours didn't see the use and abuse mine did for the 4 years I had it.
Duck hunters think they're hard on gear, mine spent 4 years on the trapline with me every day from October 15th till freeze up at the end of November (minus 2 weeks for deer season) it swam more than Jaques Cousteau in water, mud, peat bog; it was legitimately used as a emergency canoe paddle one day and still shot birds on the trip back to shore. It finished out it's last season on one workin piston cause the other one was seized up with peat bog and beaver s***. I had to heat it up and slam it out with a hammer and a punch.
Paid $1200 for it new, sold it for $200 when my son was born and regretted it ever since. Can't kill a versamax; I'm positive you could weld both pistons shut and it'd cycle off recoil alone.
