I bought some Remington small pistol primers since that is all I could find. Winchester, CCI and Federal is all I usually see or read about. Anything I should know about the Remington primers? Good/bad? I am using them in a Lee Pro 1000. I know the Federals are too sensitive for my reloader but don't know much about the Remingtons.

Thanks In Advance!

been using federals in my pro 1000 and no real problems only the odd one does not set properly I just pull it out and set another one

Interesting. It states in the Lee Pro 1000 instructions not to use them because they are "dangerous" when used in that specific reloader. William's Arms told me the same thing the other day when I asked about the Remingtons. He said the Remingtons are fine in my reloader but not to use Federal.

How long have you been using them in the Lee?

P.S. EDIT....I became a Big Mouth with this post! ;-)

Federal Primers are a little softer than others. Lee does caution against using them probably at the suggestion of lawyers . Ruger puts warnings on gun barrels.

Williams was probably just repeating the Lee caution " Just in case ".
I shot PPC for years and loaded many .38's on a Lee using Federal small pistol primers without one problem

REmongton Primers

I had two batches of 5,000. I had several misfires due to "light strikes" on what I consider hard primers. Might have been a bad batch. I prefer Federal with the older priming compound that sets off easier, then Winchest then CCI.

I also notice the Remington practice ammo the RCMP use has an unusual amount of misfires judging from the struck unfired rounds I find after their practices. Hard primers....perhaps.

Take Care

IF you happen to pop a Federal primer in your press, they are more likely to set of all the others in the Lee priming system through sympathetic detonation than CCI or Winchester. The Remingtons have the same issue to a lesser extent. I haven't had it happen to me, but I have seen the results of it happening.

Remington primers work well.

I had a federal primer go off in my Lee Autoprime. It blew the tool to pieces, and a small piece into me. Only 1 went off. I am told that sometimes the first one sets off the other 100.

I am not a lawyer - and I am suggesting that Federals should not be used in Lee Autoprime.
