Actually LeBaron acquired a few SPR (previously SPARTAN) over/under models from Remington late in 2004. The Baikal importer prevented any further shipments on legal basis (since they are the exclusive importer/distributor of the Baikal-made products).
I don't know the exact details but it's something along those lines.
SPR shotguns by Remington are available only in the US. In the rest of the world (including here in Canada) they are sold as Baikal.
The good thing is that we have more choice/selection. For example the SPR-453 is available in the US only in black synthetic and camo (stock and fore-arm only). Here the MP-153 is available in black, 3 types of full camo and walnut.
On the minus side, we have to pay somewhat higher prices than US consumers. That may be due to the huge volumes imported and sold by Remington through its vast distribution/marketing/retailing network.
